TCP/IP
By: Neha Anil

Stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, which is a set of networking protocols that allows two or more computers to communicate.

So, What's Exactly iT'S FUNCTIONS?

The top layer, TCP, is responsible for taking large amounts of data, compiling it into packets and sending them on their way to be received by a fellow TCP layer, which turns the packets into useful information/data.
The bottom layer, IP, is the locational aspect of the pair allowing the packets of information to be sent and received to the correct location, i.e. how to address & route each packet.

WhY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?

Did you know?
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the research branch of the U.S. Department of Defense, created the TCP/IP model in the 1970s for use in ARPANET, a wide area network that preceded the internet.
The whole internet runs over TCP/IP. Without it, data communication & inter-networking is simply not possible.
SMTP
By: Neha Anil

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is used for sending e-mail messages between servers, or from a client to a server.

How does it work? Why do we need it?
It provides a set of codes that simplify the communication of messages b/w servers. These codes allow the server to break up diff. parts of a message, making it easier for the other server to understand.
Using a 'store and forward' process, SMTP moves your email on and across networks. It works with the MTA to send your communication to the right inbox.
And now, we move onto the next important Internet Protocols!!
POP3
-By Akshay

POP stands for Post Office Protocol 3
POP — the post office protocol — is the language used between a computer fetching email
A “POP client” is a program fetching email. Thunderbird and Microsoft Office’s Outlook desktop program are two examples. A “POP server” is the server holding your email.
The “3”in POP3 indicates that we’re all using version three of the POP protocol. It underwent a few revisions before it became what it is today.

HTTP
-By Akshay

HTTP - Hypertext Transfer Protocol
HTTP is the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web and this protocol defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands.

https
By- Gurshant
hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is an extension of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It is used for secure communication over a computer network, and is widely used on the Internet.

ssh
By- Gurshant
secure Shell (SSH) is a cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network. Typical applications include remote command-line, login, and remote command execution, but any network service can be secured with Ssh.
