There are six kingdoms we use to classify organisms:
-Archaebacteria
-Bacteria
-Protists
-Fungi
-Plant
-Animal
2.Archaebacteria (Archaens)
Unicellular (one cell) organisms
Have no cell nuclei, so they are prokaryotes
They are similar to bacteria in terms of size and structure.
But, they are completely different in their molecular organization.
- Bacteria: Also known as Eubacteria
-Unicellular organisms that have cell walls, but lack organelles and an organized nucleus.
-Can cause diseases
-Prokaryotes
-many different shapes of bacteria
- Cocci
- Bacilli
- Spirilla
- Vibrios
- Spirochaetes
3.Protists:
-Eukaryotes, their cells have a nucleus and other membrane bound organelles.
-Most, but not all are single-celled.
-Most have mitochondria
-They can be parasites
-They prefer aquatic or moist environments
Classifications:
-Animal-like: Heterotrophs, have the ability to move
-Plant-like: Autotrophs, have the ability to photosynthesize
-Fungi-Like: Heterotrophs, have cells with cell walls and reproduce by forming spores
