Hi Everyone, my name is Penelope! I love to learn new things and make new friends! Today, I am at the park enjoying the beautiful weather here on planet earth.
I was feeling a bit hungry, so my friends Lou and Kelly came to join me for a picnic at the park. It's going to be lots of fun!
Lou's Mom is so thoughtful! She packed us a delicious picnic. We had sandwiches, apples, cookies and used plastic water bottles to drink out of.
During our picnic we ate, giggled and enjoyed the outdoors. Eventually, it was time to clean up. We didn't want to leave a mess behind at our favorite park!
Oh no! It looks like my friends and I have run into a problem. We found the garbages in the park, but we are not sure which one to use for our plastic water bottles. I wonder if anyone around here can help us!
What does the green symbol mean?
No need to worry Penelope! I'm Recycling Ryan and I'm here to teach you all about how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
This is my partner, Rufus!
We have come from a beautiful place much like planet Earth, called planet Eco-Friendly.
Do you know what recycling is? When you recycle you are turning used materials and waste into something new. Recycling helps prevent waste and reduces the use of energy!
Here on planet Eco-Friendly, it's my job to make sure everyone is recycling.
You and your friends can recycle too, it's easy! The best part about recycling is that it will help your planet's environment stay clean and safe!
This green symbol is the Universal Recycling Symbol. When you see this symbol on a garbage can or bin, you can place your recyclables inside of here to be recycled!
So, what can be recycled? There are many items you use everyday that can be recycled. Bottles, paper, cans, plastic, cardboard, and empty food containers made of these materials are some of the most commonly used items that can be recycled after each use. Even batteries from old toys can be recycled too!
Recycling is great, but there is much more you can do to help your planet. When you are at home, try to reduce the amount of water that is used to brush your teeth. You can do this by turning the faucet off while you brush so you don't waste running water!
You can also reduce the amount of plastic that you use. Replace your plastic water bottles with an eco-friendly water bottle that you can refill and reuse each day.
Instead of throwing away toys and clothes that you have outgrown, you can recycle them by making a donation to a local charity or passing them down to someone in need so everything can be reused!
DONATIONS
When you are at home, make sure all lights are turned off when they are not in use. This will help reduce the amount of energy that you and your family are using!
