I am the Moon. I formed 4.5 billion years ago. I came along when a Mars sized planet collided with Earth. The debris from the collision formed together in an orbit around Earth creating Me.

I am the moon. I am not made of cheese. Just like Earth, I have a core, mantle, and a crust. My core is made of iron and molten. My mantle is made of solid rock, and my crust is made of silicate rocks. My crust also has aluminum.

I am the moon. I am about 230,100 miles away from Earth and 1/4 the diameter of Earth. Only on side of me can be seen from Earth. This is because of my rotation. I have 16 percent of Earths gravity, but not enough to hold gases. I do not have an atmosphere.

I am the moon. My surface includes craters, marias, highlands, rays, and rilles. Craters are circular pits with raised rims. They come from impact. A maria is a large congealed lava flow that fills my basins. They are surrounded by highlands. My rays radiate from young craters and my rilles are just narrow canyons.

I am the moon. I have a lunar cycle and 8 lunar phases. Each of my phases repeat almost every 28 days. My phases are based on how much light from the sun is being reflected from my surface. That depends on my position.

I am the moon. When I am between the Earth and the Sun I don't reflect light. I am then called a new moon. This is my first phase.

I am the moon. When Earth is between me and the Sun I am a full moon. I am reflecting all of the suns light. It takes 2 weeks for me to move from a new moon to a full moon.
