Hi there! My name is Helen Keller.
I was born in 1880 in Alabama.
I changed the lives of millions of people with disabilities by bringing them courage and hope.
When I was almost two years old, I got really sick. My parents were really worried.
Although I eventually got better, I lost my sight and hearing because my illness.
This is a photo of me "finger spelling" into Anne's hand.
It was frustrating trying to talk with my family! My parents knew I needed special help.
They asked Anne Sullivan to help me. She taught me how to spell words.
Anne also taught me how to read using braille.
Braille is a system of raised bumps that can be read by blind people.
When I turned 19, I went off to college.
I was the first deaf and blind person to graduate from college!
