Understand Guidance

Guidance means using firmness and understanding to help children learn how to behave. It promotes security and positive self esteem, teaches children from right to wrong, and, with effective guidance, it allows them to learn self-discipline.

Be A Role Model

Children learn best by being shown what to do, rather than just being told what to do. They constantly watch those around them and then imitate those behaviors.

Give Effective Directions

Caregivers often need to tell children what to do. Sometimes they do not listen, but most of the time its the lack of understanding. Which is why you should always get the child's attention, be polite about it, use words the child will understand, and be very clear.

Set Limits

Setting limits is another way to guide children toward appropriate, safe behavior. Having limits helps them to understand expectations and acceptable behavior, and to develop self control.

Provide Positive Reinforcement 

Positive reinforcement is a response that encourages a particular behavior. Children are more likely to change their behavior when they are praised for the things they do right.
