It is the 15th September, the start of a new academic year. Students are happy to meet their fellow colleagues after a long summer break. Parents are cheering their children on at the start of their path to knowledge.

Among the joyful "returning" students, there were also new children. John, 12, was one of them. He had moved cities, thus his school too. John was also happy to return to school, but a bit shy to meet his new colleagues.

After a warm welcome from the principal, the children were led to their classes. They were asked to sit down at their wanted school bench.
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
After two minutes, most of the students had chosen their desired desk, often with their best friends. Only one student hadn't yet found one. It was John. Showing empathy, Scarlett stood up and asked John:

John, would you like to sit with me?
I'd love to! Thanks!
Scarlett and John chatted for the whole day, becoming fast good friends.

The following Saturday, Scarlett would turn 13, so she was preparing to throw a birthday party with her colleagues. Scarlett invited John to the party as well.

Would you like to come to my birthday party this Saturday?
Of course! Thanks for the invitation!
Scarlett's party gave everyone the opportunity to share stories from their vacations. Children wanted to know more about John, how he felt moving cities and schools, what his hobbies are, getting to know him better.

Wow! It's great that you play basketball, John! You should definitely join our team.
By the end of the party, John felt belonging among his new friends. Without Scarlett's instant friendship, it would have taken him far longer to be welcomed properly in his new class.
