Hi! My name is Maddie, I go to Grove Creek and right now we are learning about Macromolecules.
Macromolecules- Molecules that have very large numbers of atoms, such as proteins and nucleic acids.
There are multiple different types of macromolecules. One Example is Carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates- A macromolecule that consists of mainly sugars and starches that the body breaks down into glucose.
Some examples of Carbohydrates are; Milk, sugar, honey, etc.
The macromolecule that gets broken down after the carbohydrates is Lipids.
Lipids- An important part of a healthy diet. The body uses lipids as an energy store, as insulation and to make cell membranes.
Some examples of Lipids are; Peanut butter, vegetable oil, etc.
After Carbohydrates and Lipids comes Proteins.
Proteins- can perform a diverse range of functions for the cell. They help in metabolism by providing structural support and by acting as enzymes, carriers or as hormones. The building blocks of proteins are amino acids. These are very unlikely to get broken down into energy though.
Some examples of Proteins are meats.
