I choose the Homesteader for the assignment

My characters name is Michael Burch, he is a married man with 2 kids. He works as a poor farmer in the east. Hearing about the homestead act,he takes the opportunity and moves his family and his 2 young boys, and sets out leaving behind his old life for a chance to make it big! 

This is one path that the homesteaders took to get to the great plains.They would mainly come from the east, on or near the coastline states and make there way west until they settled around the middle of the country.

The first area we are looking at is Columbus, Ohio were Micheal will begin his trip to the great plains.Columbus is mainly hot and humid meaning that at the start, the birches will have to go through the burning heat

The second area we are looking at is the Mississippi river. Around the Mississippi river,twisters are common and the temperature can range from 100 degrees to -80 depending on the season. 

The final area I will be looking over is the great plains. The plains are also common with high winds,intense tempurters,and are commonly indigenous to native Americans who could pose a threat to the birches should they get violent.

One the transcontinental railroad was built, it made a 5 month trip fulled with dangerous weather and Indians,was now a 4 day trip with less danger of being attacked.

In the future, I believe the great plains will be one of the most profitable areas in US history.
