One bright sunny day, little Johnny went out to play. Johnny loved everything about being outside. His favorite thing was playing basketball with his friends. Johnny was part of a basketball team, “The Rockets.”

The Rockets were the worst team in the little league 3-A division. They had lost every game last season. There seemed to be no hope for these young players! They had tried everything to make their team better, but nothing helped!

Every kid in school picked on the Rockets. Nobody liked them because they were losers. The other team, the Nets had won all the other games. Nobody could beat the Nets.

One day, a mean man who wouldn’t stop throwing trash on the side of road got a punishment he deserved. After facing the judge in court, the judge decided he needed to learn how to help people around him! The judge sentenced him to be the Rocket’s new coach.

Johnny was out playing with his teammates on a warm summer day. Every shot that was thrown hit the rim or flew through the air. The new coach, Mr. Banks headed their direction with a sense of disbelief. He had never seen a team so bad.

The first day of practice was terrible! Mr. Banks couldn’t get the kids to make any shots. They were a mess. Finally he stopped them and corrected their mistakes. The Rockets felt as if they were never going to get better. They felt like losers.
