Who is Avery Bang?

Avery Bang is a Civil Engineer.  She is the current President and CEO of Bridges to Prosperity (B2P), building footbridges over impassable rivers.  These bridges help over 1.3 million adults and children around the world cross dangerous rivers to get to school and doctors safely.

Early life

Avery was born in July 1984 in Iowa City, Iowa. Growing up she had a passion for building with Legos (she still does) and drawing from different dimensions.  Avery had good spatial awareness which helped her draw items from different perspectives.   She also enjoyed and did well in math and science classes.  Avery had a role model in her dad.  When she was young her dad went to engineering school and became a civil engineer.

Education

Avery earned a degree in Civil Engineering and Studio Art from the University of Iowa.  In 2006 Avery began volunteering for Bridges to Prosperity.  Avery later completed a degree in Geotechnical Engineering (looking at soil and rock materials to solve engineering challenges) from the University of Colorado.  In 2016 Avery attended the University of Oxford in England to complete her Masters of Business Administration.

What else does Avery like to do for fun?

In her free time, Avery enjoys snowboarding, skiing, hiking with her dog, and playing soccer (she received a soccer scholarship that paid for college).  She also puts her art degree to use flipping houses.
