Fred the Frog begins his life as a fertilized egg in a pond. His egg floats alongside other eggs on the water in a jelly mass, also known as a cluster.

Fred hatches into a tadpole looking more like a fish than a frog. He doesn't have legs yet, but he has gills instead to allow him to breathe underwater.

As a tadpole, Fred swims, eats algae from the water, and grows for several weeks. Over some time, Fred starts to develop lungs so he will be able to breathe out of the water as a frog.

Fred is now considered a froglet as he starts to grow two hind legs. Now he can leap around instead of only swimming.

Fred is starting to look more like a frog, but is still a tadpole with a very long tail. As he gets older, Fred grows two front legs and his tail becomes shorter.
Slowly, Fred's tail grows shorter and he becomes a young frog. He hops right out of the water and onto dry land for the first time!

Fred the Frog will grow for about 2-4 years to become an adult. He will later mate to allow more tadpoles to hatch and begin the cycle again!
