Today our class will be going on a field trip to the zoo!

There are going to be a whole bunch of animals you might have never seen or heard of before, so as we go through the zoo be on the lookout so we can all learn about them and their classifications!
"Look, Miss Zaccaria, its a tiny frog crossing the street." said Billy as soon as they got to the zoo.
Yes, it is! Frogs are in the amphibian category and are cold-blooded animals that lay eggs. They also breathe and absorb water through their skin!

Other types of amphibians are newts, toads, and salamanders.
"Oh wow look how colorful that bird is!" screamed Jessica in excitement.
That bird is a peacock! Peacocks are in the bird category and are warm-blooded animals that have wings and a beak to help them eat and catch food. They have 2 legs and are covered in feathers that help keep them warm. Birds also lay eggs to reproduce.

Other types of birds are chickens, penguins, parrots, and hawks.
"Look at all those fish swimming in the water," said Noah.
Fish have their own category and are one of the oldest known animals. They are cold-blooded and are covered in scales. Fish have gills that they breathe through to stay alive underwater.

Other types of fish are sharks, eels, seahorses, salmon, and goldfish.

"It's a crocodile! I have only seen one of them on TV," Jenn mentioned.
That is actually an alligator and is part of the reptile category. Reptiles are another type of cold-blooded animal. Unlike fish, they breathe through their lungs. Reptiles have 4 legs and their bodies are covered in scales.

Other types of reptiles are snakes, lizards, crocodiles, and even dinosaurs!
