Sally is going to her friend Abigail's house.
Abigail and her family are Jewish.
They are celebrating Hanukkah.

"Sit down kids, I am going to tell you about Hanukkah!" Said Abigail's dad.
"Okay," said the kids.

"Hanukkah is a celebration of when a temple in Jerusalem was freed from the Greeks. Jews weren't allowed to pray to Jewish God, but they fought to pray. When they won, they celebrated with a temple. They lit a candle, and it only had enough oil to stay lit for on day, it stayed on for 8 whole days." said Abigail's dad.
"Wow" responded Sally.

"The candle lasted 8 days, and that is why Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 nights and days. That is why we light a nine-branch candle for Hanukkah." said Abigail's dad.

"We also play games for Hanukkah." said Abigail's dad.
"My favourite game is Dreidel!" said Abigail.
"What is a Dreidel?" asked Sally.
"We play with a top, the top is called a Dreidel! It is on the table, see?" replied Abigail.
"Yes!" said Sally.

"What do you eat when you celebrate Hanukkah?" asked Sally.
"We get to eat special foods for Hanukkah" answered Abigail.
"We eat food made with oil like the oil from the candle." said Abigail's dad.
"Yes! We get to eat jam doughnuts! They're my favourite." said Abigail.

"About the candle, can I light one right now?" asked Sally.
"Actually Sally, it is morning right now, and we can only light the candles at sundown. They should burn for at least half an hour after it is dark outside." said Abigail's dad.
"Wow, I didn't know that!" said Sally.
