In order for a democratic nation to
function properly, be just to all its
citizens, and prevent overpowering of
one person or body, the three branches
of government were created. The
branches all have different jobs that
they are assigned to do.

laws? Congress is divided into 2 houses; the House of Representatives, and the
Senate. The House of Representative's members are selected by the people of
several states. The Senate, however, is composed of two senators from each state.

bill, which is then either rewritten, approved, or killed by the committee. The House or
Senate then debate and vote on their own version of the bill. Members of both
committees try to work out the differences between the two versions, and the bill is is then
sent to the executive branch.

leaders of the executive branch. This branch's job is to enforce laws.



or vetoes it. If it is signed, the bill has finally become a law. If it is vetoed, or rejected,
the bill can be sent back to Congress. Congress can then approve the bill with a two-
thirds majority vote, and it can become a law.

members of the final branch, the Judicial branch, are appointed by the President and are
confirmed by the Senate. The Judicial branch is composed of the Supreme Court and other
federal courts.

decide the meaning of laws, how they are applied, and whether or not
they're constitutional.

Each branch acts as a sort of a 'check' for the other branches' power.
Because of this, all power is not given to one person or body.
