The Cross family was considered a normal family in Kentucky,
their ancestors served in the Revolution and they lived a regular
life. Andrew and Joseph Cross are the current sons of the Cross
family. At the thought of joining the Civil War, the two brothers
were excited, believing they could become heroes.

Their father was a stern supporter of the Union, and so was their
mother. But Joseph was different, he felt the South had the right
beliefs. This caused him to be distant from his family, not
wishing to speak about the different views they shared. His
sister, Jessica, tried to convince him to try to see their point of
view, but due to her in the process of becoming a nun, she could
not help all the time.

Finally, an argument broke out between Andrew and Joseph about
which side they should enlist in. Angry, Joseph stormed away,
stating he wouldn't bow down just because family asks him to.
Joseph did not return and it was rumored he ran away to the
South. With that information Andrew joined the Union Army,
believing this was the right cause.

Life in the army was hard and demanding for Andrew, but he
forced himself to do it. He wanted to help preserve the Union and
unify the country once more. He fought in a few battles and wrote
to his family constantly, though he wondered what Joseph was
doing now, if he was alive and well.

One day, they were heading towards the site of another battle, the
Confederates had the advantage, and they were going to try to
bolster the Union ranks. For some reason, Andrew felt uneasy, that
something bad would happen in this battle.

The battle was devastating, both sides were having men fall before
them repeatedly. As Andrew fought, he saw a face on the
Confederate side that shocked him and made him unable to move.
It was his brother Andrew. His brother had gone to the South and
joined the Confederate army. And here they were, on the same
battlefield.

There they were, brother and brother fighting on different sides of
the same battlefield. Andrew started to move again and continued
fighting, trying to move closer and closer to his brother. Finally,
Joseph saw him and ran towards him, an angry look on his face.
