As Kaitlyn grew up loving cooking and baking she grew a passion for the culinary arts. In the summer of 8th grade, Kaitlyn would begin to expand her culinary skills at Hugh's Academy. 

Hugh's Culinary is a cooking program that offers students an introduction to the food industry. Through practical and hands-on learning, the program is designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to prepare them for working with food. 

In her first class at Hugh's culinary Kaitlyn would learn proper knife skills and a French term, Mise en Place, meaning "everything put in its place." Kaitlyn would fall in love with the environment, setting up her measurements and equipment and getting ready to cook. 

Her favorite technique began to be cutting. She would learn to properly grip the knife and effectively master the chef's hold. 

Learning proper culinary skills throughout her sessions, Kaitlyn quickly grasped techniques. After going to the academy for 5 weeks, her mentors asked her to begin assisting the students. She began teaching as a counselor in training. 

Getting to assist students with a passion that she also held, she realized how much she loved working with kids. She continued to work at the academy where she was employed in 2020.
