In the depths of the sea swam a beautiful school of fish. Each
fish had shiny orange scales and dark orange fins so that every
other fish in the sea could tell to which school they belonged.
Joey, however, was different.

Joey had the same shiny orange scales as the rest of his family,
but his fins were a plain black color and he was much tinier
than the others.
"I don't belong with the rest of you," Joey said sadly.
"Don't be silly!" His mother replied.

One day, Joey decided that he had had enough of being the only fish
who was different. He decided to go on an adventure to find a place
where he could fit in. And so, while his family swam off in search of
food, Joey took off in the opposite direction.

Joey had been swimming for hours when he came across two seahorses
floating around.
"Are you lost, little fish?" asked the yellow seahorse.
"I'm looking for fish who are more like me," Joey explained.
"We would love to have you join us," the other seahorse said, "but we
can't swim very much. Our fins are so tiny that we get tired really
quickly!"
"Well that isn't like me at all," Joey said. "I love to swim!" So Joey said
goodbye and continued swimming in search of someone more like him.

Joey continued to swim when, suddenly, he heard voices coming from
above him. He swam closer to the surface before cautiously poking his
head out of the water to see a red crab and a seagull chatting on the
sand.
"Hey look, it's a fish out of water!" the seagull squawked.

"If you don't get back in the water soon, you're going to look like that
guy," the crab chattered and gestured towards the fish lying on the
sand.
"I'm looking for someone who's more like me," Joey answered. "It's
hard being different from everyone else."
The crab and seagull looked at each other, but Joey was already
missing the water. He needed to be able to breathe! He ducked his
head back under and heard the crab yell out, "Good luck, kid! Hope
you find what you're looking for!"

Joey was frustrated.
"All of the fish in the sea and there isn't a single one like me?" he thought to
himself. He was considering giving up when he noticed a hint of red poking
out of some seaweed.
"Hello?" Joey called. A fish cautiously peeked through the plants and
answered, "Hi there."
"Why are you hiding?" Joey asked curiously.

"I like it best down here!" the fish answered. "It's like having shelter and
food all in one place!
"So you don't like to swim around and play?" Joey was shocked. He loves
twirling and flipping in the water!
"Not really," the red fish replied. "My family doesn't either."
Joey was sad that even this fish had a family just like him, so he said
goodbye and gloomily began swimming again.

Joey had now been swimming all day, and he was exhausted. No matter how
many other sea creatures he talked to, he just couldn't find one that was
more like him. Joey was swimming aimlessly when he heard bubbles
gurgling and water swishing behind him. He slowly turned around to face a
grin of sharp, pointy teeth. It was a shark!
