China is a large country that is in the 

continent of Asia. In this country lived a little 

boy named Menglin. He was an only child like 

most of the kids in his generation.

His dad was a doctor who helped heal others. His mom 

was a teacher who helped others learn. He lived with his 

mom and dad in an apartment where he learned to play the 

piano.  

Maybe it was his mom's fault, but he loved to learn ever since 

he was just a toddler.

He learned calligraphy when he was 7 years old and he went 

to school for the very first time when he was 8 years old.

At his school there was no cafeteria and 

because both of his parents had to work 

he went to 'little table' in kind peoples' 

homes to eat lunch. But the food wasn't 

always very good.   

At school, he also had to sit very still and quiet 

for a long, long, long time and listen to his 

teachers talk. He even learned to salute his 

teachers. 

Sometimes while at school he looked around and thought 

that all the students looked like a bunch of robots. 

At first Menglin was regarded as a foolish student because one 

day he was playing around, fell and got hurt. He was scared and 

didn't know how to explain what happened to his teacher. But 

eventually, he was regarded as a good student because he was 

getting high scores on his tests.

After elementary and middle school he went to high school. 

There he got tons and tons of homework, he sometimes felt 

like a robot that had to memorize texbooks. In high school, 

Menglin also had to create a personal resolution for a very 

important test.
