Hi! I'm Lucy, I am hanging out at Tybee Island today. The beach is my favorite place to go. I enjoy playing in the surf at the water's edge.

This part of the beach is called the intertidal zone. Come with me and let's see what lives here!

Creatures that live near the intertidal zone will often form their own communities. Any living creature must be able to survive the constant changes in temperature, moisture, salinity, and be able to fight the strong waves.

One creature that can do this is the SeaStar. The SeaStar is known as a benthic animal becasue it can live in any level of the sea floor.

As we already know, SeaStar's live in salt water and are found in ocean's all over the world.

For the most part, SeaStar's are carnivores. They prey mostly on mollusks. Did you know that SeaStar's can pry open its prey with their suction cups on their feet?

They also like to eat clams, mussels, and oysters.

Some predators of the SeaStar are fish, sea turtles, snails, crabs, otters, birds and believe it or not, even other SeaStar's!
