Mr. Leuzzi, Ms. Melissa and the grade 1/2 class
were about to embark on a journey. Their
journey was to begin in Brazil.
Brazil is a country. This country is in the
continent called South America.

They quickly packed their suitcase and headed to the
airport. At the airport, each person had to show their
passport to the officer to get checked. The officer said "
Please take out your passports. Don't forget everyone
traveling to another country needs their passport."
After the officer checked all the passports, they entered the
airplane to enjoy the 12 hour flight (Italy to Brazil).

When the grade 1/2 class got out of the airport, they
were amazed to be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was
warm and humid.
Matthew remembered reading in the Atlas that Brazil
is the largest country in South America and fifth
largest worldwide.
Theo was excited because the class was going to be
in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup .

Lefteris said " I know the World Cup will be
starting June 12th until July 13th, 2014".

Nathalia said to Eva" I practiced speaking
Portuguese because I heard that it is the
official language in Brazil."
Savannah said "let's go explore to city".
As they were exploring, they decided to stop at
a restaurant for lunch.
The restaurant was called Antiquarius. This
restaurant has traditional portuguese food.

Everyone took their seats at the restaurant
and read the menu.
On the menu, they had:
“feijoada” - a bean stew with pork that is
served with rice.
"Pão de Queijo", or cheese puff: It tastes
particularly delicious when eaten just out of
the oven.
Many types of meat

As they were walking, Simona was looking at the
clothing people who live in Brazil wear. She saw young
men wearing jeans and T-shirts. Colorful short skirts
and dresses are very popular among women.
All of a sudden, everyone started dancing in the
streets. Brazil’s most popular and festive holiday is
Carnival. In fact, many people consider Carnival one of
the world’s biggest celebrations.Almost all of the music
played during Rio Carnival is samba.
