What is agriculture?

Is agriculture for you?

Agriculture is not as simple as it sounds! There are many different aspects of agriculture, although let's use this definition:

The production, processing, and marketing of food, fiber, shelter, and natural resources.

Now, understand that agriculture is a broad concept, and although this does not cover all of it, it is what we will work with in this class. 

Let's start with food.

Food is a major part of agriculture. Everything you see at the grocery store has to do with agriculture in some way. 

There are people in the agriculture industry that cultivate, produce, process, and market food, so that we are able to consume it. 

Fiber and Shelter:

Fiber is material used to make clothing. Clothing is marketed in stores or on online websites. So, someone who works in a clothing store can be considered to work in the agriculture industry. 

Examples of shelter can be our houses, school, church, etc. A safe building is a type of shelter.

CLOTHING STORE

A clothing store is also an example of shelter!

Natural Resources

Something that we find in nature and are able to use. 

Can you think of some examples of natural resources?

Trees are used for their wood

Wind is used for energy

Water is used to drink after it is purified

Sunlight is used as solar energy
