Ralphie couldn’t wait for his first day of school. He was eager to meet his teacher and make new friends. The atmosphere was filled with excitement. First grade was going to be a blast!

Good morning, class! I’m Mrs. Archer, and I’m so happy to meet you all. This year in first grade, we’re going to learn so much together. I’ll be teaching you how to read and write, and it’s going to be an exciting year!
Yay! We’re so excited to start reading. We love books!
Ralphie learned very quickly that he loved when his teacher read to him. She would read about all kinds of adventures. But, when it was time for Ralphie to read, he felt very anxious and frustrated. He noticed that he was not reading as well as his classmates.

Ralphie went home and told his mom he was having a hard time learning to read. Together, they made a plan! Every day after school, Ralphie would read to his mom or sister. They also visited the library to pick out his favorite books. At school, Ralphie listened carefully and worked hard with Mrs. Archer.
After months of practice, Ralphie was a different dog. Each day, he walked into the classroom with confidence, knowing he could read. Everyone was so proud of him. Ralphie discovered that the harder you work for something, the more rewarding it feels when you achieve it.
