RELIGIONS IN INDIA

SIKHISM BY TRINIDAD TICINESE
Sikhism is a religion that started in the 1400 C.E around Asia
and it is the world’s youngest religion founded 500 years ago.
Sikhism is not derived from any other religion. The word “Sik”
means “disciple”. Nanak was the founder of Sikhism. He was
the first of 10 gurus (teachers or masters) of the religion. The
main belief in Sikhism is faith in one God, whose name is
Vahiguru. Nanak emphasized that God can only be “seen”
from “the inward eye”, or “the heart of a human being”. He
said that meditation allows communication between God and
a human being. This religion does not have rituals or
ceremonies. Sikh men had to follow the “5K’S” of Sikhism. Kes
is the requirement to not cut your hair, maintain a beard and
wear a turban. Sikhism teaches that all human beings are
equal, and can realize the divine they have. Sikhs do not
believe in fasting, superstition, ritualism, castle system,
alcohol, smoking and drugs.

JAINISM BY JOSE UGARRIZA
Jainism is a South Indian religion. it is one of the two most
popular along with Buddhism. Jainism was founded at the
same time as Buddhism . When it was created, it had about
1,000 followers. Currently, it has about 5 million. Jainism
requires people to be vegetarian. And also to believe in
reincarnation or rebirth. They say that if you are a good
person your reincarnation will be good.

HINDUISM
Brahman by Juan Andres Gimenez
Brahman derived from the Sanskrit, ¨Svaymbhu¨
because no one created him. It is known in different
ways. The different ways are The Highest God of
Hinduism, the creator of all creation, the universe
ruler and the Lord. It occupies the highest place in
Hinduism. It does not have an end or a beginning,
because he created himself, he is himself and all by
himself. It is related to souls. He is efficient material
because of creation. The four aspects of the Brahma
are himself, its knowledge, its traditions and its
schools of thought.

BUDDHISM
SIDDHARTA GAUTAMA BY TIAGO VILLALBA
Siddharta Gautama was born in Nepal in the 6th century BC.
He was a teacher, spiritual leader and founder of Buddhism.
When Siddharta was born, his father did not want him to
know about suffer, pain or disease. A holy man prophesized a
great future to him, where he would either become a great
king or a great military and spiritual leader. The prince
reached his late twenties without knowing how the real world
looked like. The first time he left the palace, he saw that
people suffered a lot and that they had a lot of problems.
After seeing that, he experimented with religious leaders for
six years but the answers to his question did not appear.
After experimenting with them, one night he felt in deep
meditation and became “The Budha” or “The Enlighted One”.

Holy River FOR THE HINDUS by Mauricio
Lloret
The Ganges is a river in Asia which
flows into India. It is considered a holy river
because they thought that the water was a
god. So they bathed in it order to purify their
soul. It was most sacred river to the Hindus,
and it was ranked an the fifth most polluted
river in the world.

HINDUISTS BELIEFS
REINCARNATION
MOKSHA
KARMA
DHARMA

REINCARNATION BY CONSTANZA DAUD
Reincarnation is the belief based on a cyclic
life, or rebirth. Our lives may be more
cyclical than linear. When someone dies, he
or she is reborn into a new life. Religions
that believe on it, consider it to be the path
of the soul and at the same time achieve
salvation. It is widely accepted by the mayor
eastern religions such as Buddhism and
Hinduism. On the other hand, for other
religions, reincarnation is foreign and
strange. Reincarnation could explain
“Karma”, especially when bad things happen
to good people because this means they are
punished for things they did in their past
lives.

MOKSHA BY PALOMA QUINTANA
Hindus believe people pass through a lot of successive lives, known as
Samsara. Moksha is the end of the death and rebirth cycle. It is
achieved once the human being overcomes the common mistakes
people make in their lives. Moksha may be achieved during life or after
death. Once it is reached, there is no more reincarnation. But they
think that the incarnation depends on the previous life and the way it
was lived, which is known as the Karma. Death is the last part of
Samsara, so Hindus refer to it as the “last sacrifice”. The religions that
believe in Moksha are Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

KHARMA BY MARIA FE SOSA
The word karma means "action". All actions have
consequences, some in the moment, some later, and some in
their other life. They can not escape from their consequences,
even though bad actions can be expiated by good ones.
Actions are not homogeneous, but actually contain three
components: the thought which considers the action; the will,
which discovers the method for achievement; and the union of
thought and will, which conveys the action into realization.

DHARMA BY MARA SALUM
For the Sikhas, dharma means “path of righteousness”. The
meaning of dharma is Natural Law. For Hinduism, this idea
refers to one person´s obligations, calling duties. It is
affected by how old a person is, its caste, occupation, and
gender. Dharma is very important to religion and philosophy
in India. According to Indian religion, dharma allows a person
to move faster in to other phases of life such as Moksha or
Nirvana which explain a personal liberation.

HINDUIST BOOKS
VEDAS
THE RIG VEDAS BY IVAN FERREIRA
The Rig Vedas is a group of poems that people in India first sang
and recited. They are a part of the “Four Vedas” and they tell the story
of Prajapati, the first god who created the world. They are the oldest
of the four collections of hymns and they contain 1028 mantras. It is
considered the “Sacred Knowledge” of the Aryans. Many of the
mantras in the Rig Vedas are hymns to the gods.

HINDUIST GODS AND
DEITIES
VISHNU
SHIVA

GARCIA

It is the protector of the entire world
and the restorer of moral order
Dharma. Vishnu is peaceful, merciful
and compassionate. It is the supreme
Lord. It has four arms and a dark
