I am a kid just like you. I go to school, play
with my friends, spend time with my family,
and have lots of fun. Except I get to live in the
White House! The White House is the place
where all the presidents live while they are
president. How do I get to live there you might
be wondering? Well my dad is the President of
the United States of America!

It all started in 2009, when my dad
become the 44th president. A
president is what we call the leader or
person in charge of America. Lots of
people were excited because he was
the first African American president
ever! I started to see my dad’s name
Barack Obama everywhere! I guess
you could say we became pretty
famous.

When you get elected, or chosen
president you stay president for a term
of four years. My dad was elected
president two times, once in 2008 and
the other in 2012. That means I got to
live in the White house for 8 years.

My dad had lots of new responsibilities
when he became the president. I liked
to talk to him about his days at dinner
because there was always something
new going on. Dad said sometimes
being president is stressful but that he
knew it was important to make
changes to better America.

Now I am just a kid so there’s a lot of
things my dad does that I don’t really
understand. I know being the President
is a big deal though. My dad told us one
day that he had ended a war in Iraq. It
made me happy that other kids would
get their dads back home now.

Living in the White House I learn lots of new
words! One of the words I heard my dad use a
lot was reform. He explained to me that a
reform was like making a change to something
to make it better. My dad tried his best to
make changes to make America better for all
the people.

Since becoming president my dad made
reforms to education and schools. He also
made reforms in the economy. The economy
is a word that refers to all of America’s
money, products, and businesses. It takes a
lot of time and planning to make reforms to
improve things. What are some things you
would like to reform?

My dad even made reforms in health care.
Health care is a service that helps people get
what they need to be healthy. His reform,
called Obamacare got my dad a lot of
attention. Some people like it, while others do
not. But it’s tricky to get millions of people to
all agree right?
