Today in ballet class, I put my arms and feet in first position. I put my heels together, had my feet facing out and put my arms out in front of me like I was holding a big beach ball.
5
6
Today in ballet class, I stood at the barre and balanced on my toes while I stood in second position. I spread my feet apart and had my toes facing out.
7
8
Today in ballet class, we stood in third position. I have one foot in front of the other with my front foot touching the middle of my back foot. My teacher comes around and corrects my feet.
9
10
Today in ballet class, we did a demi-plea in fourth position . It is just like third position, except my feet don't touch in the middle. My front foot is extended to the front.
11
12
Today in ballet class, we stood in fifth position. I had my front foot extended to the right with my back toes touching the heel of my front foot.
13
14
Today in ballet class, we practiced our pirouettes. I began in fifth position, with my right foot in front and my arms out in front of me. I extended my front foot out to the side and then dragged it behind my back foot. I brought my right foot up to my left knee and began to turn.
15
16
Today in ballet class, we learned how to do a grand jete leap. To start, I took two big steps forward. Then I lifted my right leg and extended it up in the air while also lifting my left leg and extending it up in the air. Finally, I landed back in fifth position.
17
18
Today in ballet class, we did poteboraes across the floor. I started in second position with my arms round in front of me and my hands almost touching. With my toes pointed, I moved my right foot to the side, then moved my left foot behind my right and then moved my right foot to the side again landing me back in second position.
19
20
Today in ballet class, we stood in releve. I stood in first position and then went onto my tippy toes and tried to balance with my arms over my head. I had to stay frozen in that position like ice.
21
22
Today in ballet class, we learned how to saute. Saute means "jump" in French. I stood in first position, then jumped up and pointed my feet and then landed back in first position.
23
24
Today in ballet class, we worked on our arabesques. I stood with my feet in first position and then kicked my leg back behind me and pointed my foot. I reached my arms out long and held the position for a long time.
25
26
Today in ballet class, I wore my new leotard. All ballerinas wear a leotard when they are practicing ballet. It feels tight on my body, covers me just below my neck, stops right before my thighs and leaves my arms and legs free to dance.
27
28
Today in ballet class, I wore my hair in a bun. All ballerinas must wear their hair in a bun so their hair will not get in their face when they are dancing. A ballerina's bun can not be messy!
29
30
Today in ballet class, I wore a ribbon in my hair. Ballerinas wear ribbons in their hair as another way to keep their hair our of their faces and to look neat and beautiful on stage.
31
32
Today in ballet class, I wore my ballet slippers on my feet. A ballet slipper is usually white, pink or black. The slipper is a soft material that covers a dancer's toes, but has an opening in the middle of the foot.
33
34
Today in ballet class, we changed out of our ballet slippers and into our lyrical paws. Whenever we dance to a song that has lyrics, we have to change our shoes because we are no longer dancing ballet. Instead, we are dancing a style called "lyrical".
35
36
Today in ballet class, I also got to try on my friend's pointe shoes. Pointe shoes are square and hard at the bottom so that the ballerina can actually be dancing on her toes. If a dancer is not use to dancing with pointe shoes, she may quiver and shake because it is hard to balance.
37
38
Today in ballet class, I found out we are going to wear tutus at our dance recital. A tutu is a big skirt that ballerinas wear when they are dancing in a big performance. A recital is when a dancer gets to perform a dance in front of a lot of people.
