The Nervous System - Introduction
The nervous system contains a
network of specialized cells called
neurons that coordinate the
actions of human behavior and
transmit signals between different parts
of a body. The nervous system
consists of two parts,
central and peripheral.

Neurons
The most important property of a neuron is its ability
to communicate with other cells. Through the
synapses, rapid transmission of signals are made
either electrically or chemically. Axons are also a part
of this communication process by making thousands
of
synaptic contacts throughout the body.
Humans have hundreds of different types of
neurons with a wide variety of functions.
