Nervous System
The nervous system
processes thousands of bits
of information. It makes
sense of all of this info, and
decides how the body
should respond. The brain
is mainstay of this system,
and it along with the
endocrine system controls
everything we do.

Neurotransmitters
z
Neurons
Neurons contain genetic information, but are
different from other cells. The many different
classifications and unique functions set
neurons apart. They are made up of dendrites
and axons.

Neurotransmitters
Neurotransmitters
are chemicals that
are triggered by
electrical impulses in
the nerves. These
chemicals carry
messages to
subsequent neurons.
Neurotransmitters
are how the nerves
communicate.

Peripheral Nervous System
This system carries
messages between the
central nervous system and
the organs. It can be divided
into the autonomic nervous
system and the somatic
nervous system. These take
care of a variety of functions,
including breathing, heart
rate, and movement.

Central Nervous System
This system is made up of the brain and the
spinal column. This is where the information
from the peripheral nervous system is
organized, prioritized and a response is
formulated.

The Brain
The brain is the organ which controls
everything. It is made up of different
structures which control different things. It is
responsible for thought, creativity, language,
perception, and reasoning, among other
things.

Parts of the Brain
I. Hindbrain
a. Medulla
b. Reticular Activating System
c. Pons
d. Cerebellum
II. Midbrain
a. Top inch of brain
stem
III. Forebrain
a. Limbic System
b. Hypothalamus
c. Thalamus
d. Cerebrum

Lobes of the Brain
1. Frontal Lobe- deals with motor
functions, creativity, and emotional
reactions
2. Parietal Lobe- deals with body
senses, orientation, pain, heat, cold,
positions, pressure, thinking, reading
3. Occipital Lobe- deals with vision
4. Temporal Lobe- deals with hearing,
music understanding speech, and
memory for nonverbal events

The Endocrine System
The endocrine system
works in conjunction with
the nervous system to
coordinate and control
bodily functions. What
separates the endocrine
system is that it is
generally used for longer
lasting control. This
system uses hormones
instead of
neurotransmitters. The
hormones are produced
in organs called glands.
