Before working in a kitchen it is important to remember a few safety precautions. People get foodborne illnesses from dirty kitchens. The kitchen may look clean but there can be lots of pathogens living on counters, cutting boards, and food that is not properly stored.
3
A clean kitchen is a must before you start cooking. Make sure your cooking utensils and counter tops are clean before beginning to cook.
4
Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, rinse, and dry with a paper towel. Be sure to have clean food as well.
5
Safety is important. Turn all pot handles inwards towards the safety zone on the stove.
6
If a fire starts on top of the stove turn off the burner, cover it with a lid, and you can put baking soda on it. Never use water.
7
When removing a lid from a steaming pot remember to tilt the lid up from the back of the pot so the steam goes away from you.
8
Remember to use a knife correctly by turning fingers in on top of the food and cut away from yourself. Do not put the knife in the sink. Wash it separately to avoid cutting yourself.
