Hey Everyone! Its Jake!
And its Zoe!

And we are going to learn about-
Matter!
That was My line!
You snooze, you lose!
Matter is the "stuff" the universe is made of
Matter can be anything! From the chair you are sitting on to the stars.
Oh, yeah! And it has two traits to it: it has mass and it uses up space.
Anyway, Jake, what is matter?
Whoa!

Atoms are tiny particles that make up well, everything!
...not all atoms are the same. Some scientists believe that all matter is made up of over 100 different types of atoms!
Now let's look at how atoms play into the picture of matter.
Cool! And remember, just because everything is made of atoms...
You know it!

These are some Examples of how Hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon come together to make common compounds.
Totally! Take a look at these atoms: hydrogen, oxygen carbon
Atoms can make up matter. We can combine atoms in a lot of different ways!
When combined, they are called compounds. They are matter that are made by the putting together or bonding atoms together in a special way

Phew that's a lot of things that make up matter. Anything else?
Oh! Molecules are atoms that are "stuck" together.
Yup! there are molecules and elements. Let's start with molecules.
Exactly! Also, molecules in matter is constant, or the same throughout the whole thing.
So all the molecules in water are the same?
You know it!

Element time! Elements are matter that have the same type of atom. They also can't be broken down into a simpler substance.
Can elements have molecules too?
Yeah, a good example is gold. Pure gold is made up of only the same type of atom!
Some can. But instead of bonding with other atom types, they pair up with their own kind.

Whats next is the states of matter, Jake!
A state of matter is a form of how matter exists.
There are three ways in which all matter can exist naturally.
That was a lot of info of what matter is made up of, or its properties. What's next, Zoe?
What is a state of matter?
Well how many ways are there?
What are we waiting for? Lets find out what they are!

Exactly Right! Solids are rigid, or don't change shape.
Lets start with solids. The solid state for water, as an example, is ice.
So, solids are basically matter with a fixed shape and volume, or the amount of 3-Denominational space being taken up.
Cool! Also, solids' atoms are packed close together, so they can't move freely, they only vibrate.

So, what's the deal with liquids?
So cool! Going back to our H2O example, water itself is the liquid state!
Well, liquids are matter that have a definite or very sure, volume that takes the shape of whatever it in.
Right. And particles in liquid vibrate, move about, and slide past each other.
