“Blitz, did you remember to pack your favorite squirrel?” asked Jack.

“Got it! Did you remember your googles? You forgot them last year,” Blitz reminded Jack helpfully.

It was time for their annual summer vacation at Papa’s beach house. Jack was excited to see his cousins Oscar and Eva. Blitz was excited to see his dog cousins Mackenzie and Grover.

But Blitz was worried that he was not welcome at Papa’s house after last summer's disaster.

“I have been looking forward to this week all year! “ Papa exclaimed.

“So have we,” said the children.

“Let’s go to the beach and play ball with the dogs,” Papa suggested.

“Go fetch, Blitz,” Jack commanded.

Blitz ran after the ball. Papa ran behind him with a fishing net waving above his head. He was trying to catch Blitz's flying fur. But this was impossible.

“Jack, your dog shed’s too much” Papa complains.

“Papa, he does not mean to, it’s just the way he is.”

Back at the house Blitz asks Jack,

“Why was Papa annoyed today?”

“Don’t worry about it Blitz, it’s just the way you are,” responds Jack as he pats Blitz reassuringly.

Later that day after dinner and baths the grandchildren cuddled on the couch with their dogs for a movie before bedtime.



“Jack, I think Blitz is too big to be sitting in your lap,” Papa observes.

“He might break the couch!” Papa exclaims.

“It’s OK Papa, he won’t break it. It’s just the way he is,” Jack explains.

After the movie everyone is tired and ready for bed. The sun has set and the they climb the stairs to brush their teeth. Papa tucks them in and they dream of what they will do tomorrow at the beach.
