Harriet Tubman...who was she?
What was she like? How was she
able to help so many people and
bring them to freedom? I am
fortunate enough to know the
answers to all those
questions...come, as I take you on a
journey through the life of Harriet
Tubman and the Underground
Railroad.

Harriet Tubman...who was she?
What was she like? How did she
save so many people and bring
them to freedom?
My name is Isabel and I was a
slave...that is before I met Harriet
Tubman. Read this journal and you
will learn about Harriet and why we
call her the "Moses" of her people.

Journal,
In order to become free you have to escape
and survive and the only way to do that is on
the Underground Railroad. The Underground
Railroad is this system that helps runaways, like
me, find their way to freedom. This secret
network is made up of routes and safe homes
that lead to the North. You can't travel on the
Underground Railroad by yourself though; you
need someone that knows the routes and can
lead the way. The person I'm looking for is the
greatest conductor of them all, Harriet Tubman.
-Isabel

Journal,
I have found her. Harriet, better
known as Moses, told me that I can be
one of her passengers on her travels up
North. I approach my way towards
freedom and know I will be safe with
Harriet leading the way.
-Isabel

Journal,
On our journey, Harriet's shared many
stories and secrets with me. She said
after she had reached freedom, she
missed her family so much that she
vowed to go back to the South as many
times as it took to bring them to freedom
as well. Hearing this, I was assured that I
was going to make it up North to freedom.
-Isabel
