book, Harriet Tubman: 

Conductor to Freedom.

    Harriet Tubman was born 

around 1820 into slavery. In 

September of 1849, Harriet 

decided to escape for freedom 

on the Underground Railroad.

    In December of 1850, 

Harriet made her first trip back 

to Maryland to rescue some of 

her family members. This trip 

was a success.

    Harriet continued to make 

several trips back South to 

lead other slaves to freedom.

    In the summer of 1857, 

Harriet brought her parents 

North to freedom.  

    Harriet continued to lead 

slaves to freedom till 1860.   She 

made a total of 19 trips and 

brought at least 300 people to 

freedom in the northern United 

States and Canada. 

    Harriet Tubman died of 

pneumonia on March 10th, 

1913.   She is still remembered 

today as one of the most 

famous conductors.
