Once upon a time.... there was a man.... named Gregor Mendel.... The father of genetics. He was born on July 20, 1822.

In 1843 at the age of 21, Mendel joined a monastery in brunn, austria.

Mendel often attended to the garden. In 1851 he attended the university of vienna. he then studied the heredity of things and seeing how their traits came from the parents, he mostly focused on a pea plant.

Mendel observed 7 different characteristics of plants: Height, Pod Color, Flower position along stem, flower color, pod appearance, seed texture, and seed color.

Mendel collected seeds from his pea plants and recorded the traits and seeds. for example color, height, placement, etc.

He noticed that purple flowers came from purple flower plants, but sometimes white flowers appeared... Same happened with height

?

Mendel observed how traits were passed from generations to generations through pollination. The 2 types of pollination are self and cross.

He then began True breeding, when the true bred plants self pollinated they had that specific trait he looked for, however when they cross pollinate, they had a variety of the 2 traits. True breed parents were called the P Generation. The offspring of P Generation is called F1 Generation, and their offspring, were the F2 Generation.
