This is a book about the life of Audie L. Murphy. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II. He became the most decorated U.S. soldier and still holds that honor today. He also became an actor. This book will honor Audie Murphy and his service to our country!

I was born June 20, 1925 in Hunt County, Texas.

My parents were sharecroppers and were very poor, but that didn't bother me because I knew I was meant to be a hero!

I had a lot of brothers and sisters. We all helped take care of each other.

When I grew up, I wanted to get a job. I was really interested in joining the Marines.

In 1942, I looked into the Marines. World War II had just been declared!

I lied about my age when I tried to join the Marines, but that's only because I really wanted to join! In the end, I didn't get into the Marines because I was too short, but I joined the infantry instead!

During the war, I was in France. We were in a war with some people in Germany who were not nice to others.

During one of our battles, I helped defeat those people and made sure my fellow soldiers were safe.

Everyone called me a hero!

When I came back to the United States, I was awarded so many medals! I received the most medals than anyone else ever has!

My favorite medal that I received was the Medal of Honor.

This is the highest award that any soldier can get and that makes me feel so proud!
