Closed-form, single flower that have a dense, round shape.
Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus)-
Have gotten their name from the Greek word “dios”. This refers to the Greek God Zeus, and from “anthos” which means flower. So when it is combined, the carnation’s meaning it the “The Flower of God.” In Latin the word “carnis” means flesh. There are a variety of colors and species of the carnation. The carnation comes in three main types: Large flowered carnations that grow with one big flower on every stem, Spray
flowers, that grow with multiple smaller flowers on each stem, and a Dwarf flowered carnation which are the smallest of the three.
Blossom size: 2-3 in.
Length of stem: 80 cm with leaves that are smooth and slender and can reach up to 15 cm.

Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus)-
Also known as a Bachelor’s Button, Kerria. Cornflowers have been known as good flowers to be out in salads for garnish, entrees, and drinks. Originated in Europe, where have sometimes been a nuisance in corn and grain fields, this the name cornflower. They make good cut flowers, and are a good choice for wedding days.
Blossom size: 1 inch flowers, thirst-like
Length of stem: 20-50 cm with narrow grey-green leaves, no more than 5 mm wide.
Vase life: 4-7 days
Availability: May-August, sometimes in May and September
Packaging: 10 stems

Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla)-
These flowers are considered by many as “Grandmother’s old-time flower.” Has about 100 species of flowers native to southern and eastern Asia, and North and South America. If the terminal buds of theses shoots are destroyed, the plant usually fails to bloom. The main cause to the destruction of the bloom is excessive winter cold and uniformed pruning. Even though most Hydrangeas bloom in the summer and fall,
there are some that bloom buds in the spring after the old ones have been pruned off or damaged.

African Marigold (Tagetes erecta)-
African Marigolds got their scientific names because the word “Tages” means the grandson of Jupiter, who sprang from the ploughed earth and “Erecta” means upright. The flowers non-scientific name, the Marigold, was named that because these were the flowers of the Virgin Mary and were used to decorate church alters. Also were sometimes used to be fed to chickens to improve their yolk color.

Daisy Pompon Chrysanthemum (Denranthemax grandiflorum)-
Chrysanthemum originates from the Greek work “Chrys” which means golden (the color of the original flowers) and “Anthemon” meaning flower. This name was given to them by Carolus Linnaeus. They are tropical flowers, and were originally grown in the Eurasian regions.
Blossom size: 1-2 inch, three to seven small flowers with flat oblong petals

Campanula (Campanula)-
Also known as Bellflower, Canterbury, Bells, and Chimney Bells. There are a group of over 300 annuals, biennial and perennial plants that span several sizes and colors. Theses flowers are upturned, open cup-shaped flowers. Come in different colors, primarily lavender or light blue. Most campanula or bellflowers will begin blooming in July, and keep flowering until frost.

There are 14 different types of species of Freesia flowers. The person who named them freesias was Dr. Feese of Kiel, Germany, who died in 1876. The Freesia flower is a herbaceous member of the iris family, and is regarded as on of the most fragrant plants in the world. Freesias grow well in a hot, and humid climate. The Freesia have long been known as the symbol of friendship and innocence. Is also listed as the
7th wedding anniversary flower. Available in single or double blooms.

Iris (Iris)-
Irises have long stems, with basal, sword-shaped leaves, making them food candidates for cut flower arrangements. They have three sepals that drop downwards and are called “falls.” A tuft of short, hair-like extensions upon these falls are referred to as the “beard.” There are over 260 species of irises known in the world. Iris is the Greek word for “rainbow,” referring to the wide variety of colors found among the many
species or iris plants. In the Greek mythology, Irises are the personification of the rainbow.

Sweet Pea (Lathyrus odoratus)-
Sweet Pea’s are in the Leguminosae family, and despite the name, they do not produce peas. As it grows, it twists itself to create a stronger stem, and to support itself. It produces a sweet scent, and look like butterflies. Are native to the eastern Mediterranean, specifically the isle of Sicily. Some believe that it originated in Sri Lanka. Grows best in cool maritime climate or on a mountain. There are 110 species and a large number
of cultivars of this flower.

Orchids (Orchidaceae)-
Very lovely, complex and divers flowers. Come in a stunning array of varieties with different colors. Have over 26,000 species and about 880 categories or genera in the world. They grow on every continent, so they are one of the most divers species of flowers. These flowers are temperature sensitive and should be stored at a temperature of 45-55 degrees Fahrenheit. There structure is unique to the species and no
other flower look quite like an orchid.

Baby’s Breath (Gypsophila paniculata)-
A perennial herb native to central and eastern Europe and central and western Asia. Is widely cultivated and distributed as an ornamental and cut plant. Has become invasive in North America which threatens native grasslands and open habitats. In America it was introduced as an ornamental in the 1800s, and is now a local widespread weed in grasslands, pastures and sand dunes across primarily northern states in the
US and southern Canada.

Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum)-
A native of Mexico, and is commonly planted. Commonly called floss flower, and is from the aster family. Grows in average, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. The leaves are typically rounded, cordate-at-the-base, hairy, slightly quilted, and soft green. Genus name presumably comes from Greek.
Blossom size: 2-3 in., are tight clusters of small button like flower heads that are ½ in.
