Patriots fought for their own independence, unlike loyalist fighting for their king. Patriots were people who wanted American colonies to gain their OWN independence.

Patriots also had superior leadership.

Patriots were fighting at home turf granting them the opportunity to develop secret hiding places and better communication.

-Patriots wanted the thirteen colonies to gain independence from Britain.

-A number of patriots became known as the Founding Fathers of the United States.

-The most famous patriot at the time was George Washington who led the Continental Army and later became the first President of the United States.

-Some of the famous Patriots became presidents such as Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Declaration of Independence and John Adams.
