Who is Janelle Monae?

Janelle Monae was born on December 1st, 1985 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born to a poor family but says that gave her an intense drive to succeed. She also says that Dorothy Gale from the Wizard of Oz was a musical inspiration for her. When she was older, she moved to NY to attend an arts camp. Then, in 2001, she moved to Atlanta Georgia.
