*The process of evolution was sped up. One generation in this book is equal to many, many generations in real life.

There once was a happy Nakalipithecus who lived in Africa.
Ooh Eee Eee!

Unlike his parents, his premolars were elongated. This made it easier to eat food other than nuts which his parents ate.
Ooh Goo gah
He had a baby!! His daughter had the same teeth so he named her Ouranopithecus. She moved to the Mediterranean when she grew older.

Ouranopithecus had a daughter named Sahelanthropus.
I'm Sahelanthropus!!

Sahelanthropus started to walk upright. She was BIPEDAL(ish)!!!!!!!! She left her family and friends to found a new population back in Africa.
EEK OOK GEEK
Back in Africa, the descendants of Sahelanthropus were bipedal!!
All the Sahelanthropus liked bone marrow, but to get it they had to break the bone with their teeth. They all had toothaches after they did this.
Then one day, a smart little chap named Australopithecus hurt his tooth so bad he couldn't bite anymore. So he found a rock and broke the bone. He ate more and became strong.
The Australopithecus had a big family. One day one of his sons got really angry at all the others so he and a few of his friends ran off to Asia.
He named his new population the Orangutans because the Asian sunlight made them have orange fur. This also benefited their survival as they blended in with the orange leaves of the trees.
