I would like to dedicate this short story to my 3rd grade homeroom class at Scenic Hills Elementary. I am currently enrolled in an amazing technology course at The University of Memphis, learning new and innovative ways to implement tasks and activities driven with the use of technology. In fact, this book is an assignment, and also a new found way to engage students in story telling with the use of robotics. Please read to discover how I plan to implement this in my classroom.


Ms. Tucker..... What is robotics? Are we going to have a robot in our class?

I'm glad you asked! Robotics is basically the use of technology to make learning fun. This time, we are going to complete story telling activities using visual story telling technology.

Visual story telling technology? What do you mean? Tell me more!

Well Susie, the story telling technology I am referring to is websites that you and your peers are going to go to such as storyjumper.com to create story books or digital videos about math concepts and ideas.


Oh wow!!! I love telling stories. You mean to tell me that I'm going to be creating my own book?
Absolutely! During workstations at the technology center, the task will be for students to choose a certain website to use to create their story book or video and basically discuss your favorite math idea or concept.


Students will be required to tell background information about the idea or concept and give some examples. In short, students will be re-teaching the chosen skill/idea through a story telling platform.





This is going to be fun!

You may work on it once workstations begin. Remember that your book/video should tell about a concept and help you remember ideas.
