Rosa Parks was born in Alabama, on February 4, 1913. She was known as the "mother of the modern day civil rights movement" in America.

Rosa was the secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which is a program that was formed to fight for colored people's rights.

On December 1st, 1955 is the day Rosa got arrested for not giving up her seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. Since the bus did not have enough seats for the white man to sit, they decided to tell Rosa to move in the back but she refused.

Her act of of resistance inspired a lot of people and they started to follow in her footsteps. Everyone stopped using the buses for transportation which made the bus workers lose a lot of money. In the end, this gave them an opportunity to be able to sit wherever they like without labels.

After Rosa was released from jail, she decided to move to Detroit, Michigan later on to work in the African Methodist Espicoal Church.

In 1987, Rosa Parks co-founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development along with Elaine Steel. The reason why she made this was to motivate young people to not give up when things get hard.

She even has a day for her called "Rosa Park's Day" which is on February 4, and it is celebrated in Michigan, her home state.

After many years, Rosa earned many certificates and prizes for her courage and passion. The current president in 1996 even gave her the Medal of Freedom, which is the highest prize you could get as a citizen.
