There used to be something called the Soviet Union. They were very mean. They went into other countries and got control of them.

WE WANT YOU!!!

They wanted there money to be worth more, so they let people say what to do about there money. But it wasn't a good idea.

We want freedom!

That didn't work. So Mikhail Gorbachev found out a new way to let there money be worth more, it was one word.

GLASTNOST!!!

That made it to where people got more freedom like they asked for. But it was not a good idea.

FREEDOM!

There was a wall splitting eastern and western Europe. That fell and collapsed so people are very free.

Then people had enough they were super mad, because they wanted more freedom. They did not want to be a communist country. So they tried taking over the government by power and force.

After they attacked Gorbachev he knew he had lost power. The Soviet Union collapsed.
