Yurii Kulchytskii was born in 1604 in a village Kulchytsi near Sambir.Since 1648 he studied in Sambir church school.

When he was young he went to Sich and during one battle Kulchytskii appeared in Ottoman captivity where he learned perfectly Ottoman language and traditions ( in particular traditions to drink coffee)
