Long before the time of humans, nature was in its purest form, and all of the elements were in a balanced state.

However, soon after their arrival, humans began to learn how to harness the various powers of the world.

One of the most powerful elements being water, early humans used it to help them pound grain from their harvests, break precious ores, and make some of the first examples of modern paper.
One such Civilization was the Han Dynasty.

Many centuries later, in 1832, a man named Benoit Fourneyron discovered that water could be used to generate a new type of power, known as hydroelectricity.
The electricity was created through the process of water flowing through a water wheel or "turbine", causing it to turn, generating electricity. The mechanism that was used to create this "hydroelectricity" was named the Fourneyron Reaction Turbine.
Though Fourneyron was the first to discover hydroelectricity, his model for the water turbine was later improved by a man named Lester Allan Pelton, and his turbine Became the most widely used model in the world.

It soon became clear that Hydroelectricity was superior to other forms of energy in many different ways.

Unlike more common power sources such as coal, oil, or nuclear energy, water could never be used up. It was also much safer than the risks of nuclear meltdown and created much less pollution than burning the fossil fuels that humanity had relied on for so long.

The water was also much more flexible than other energy sources, as the water flow could easily be adjusted to fit times of high and low power consumption, whereas it was difficult to adjust the rate at which coal burns or the rate at which atoms fuse.
However, no power came without its consequences. Although hydroelectricity was a major scientific breakthrough for humanity, it had negative effects on the aquatic communities it affected.

The cost of building the dams and power plants to house the electricity created was also expensive! And in places with frequent droughts, water was not reliable enough for hydro power to be used, thus limiting it's usefulness to specific parts of the world.

But as Human civilization becomes more advanced, hydro power is beginning to grow in importance, as our natural resources have to run out eventually. And when more people begin to use Hydro electricity, the energy source will become even more advanced, and lead the world into a renewable energy future!
