People would fight all the time and take each other's property.

Hobbes thought that we needed a government. He wrote a book called LEVIATHAN to explain how he thought government should work.

In Leviathan, Hobbes says that government should be a SOCIAL CONTRACT.

The people agree to give up power to the government. The government agrees to protect the people.
