Hi mom

Hi human, how are you today?
I'm doing alright dog, but lately I've been pretty confused about federalism.

Oh I know plenty about federalism, would you like me to explain it to you?
That would be great dog!

Well to start, federalism in the United States is the separation of powers between central and local governments.

Go on...

There are four different types of powers, enumerated, reserved, concurrent, and denied.
Yeah?

Enumerated powers are powers the national government has. They can do things like print money and conduct foreign affairs.
Fascinating!

Concurrent powers are powers shared between the national and state governments, like making laws and collecting taxes.

Next are denied powers. These are powers that neither the states or the national government have. Like the ability to tax exports and ex facto laws.

And finally, there are reserved powers. These are powers granted to the states. This includes things like providing public education and conduction elections
