Hi, I'm Little Miss Flint and this is my story.

Burns go down my body and brown drinking water are just a few things I have had to deal with here in Flint.

Ever since I remember, our water has been brown and I have had to drink from plastic water bottles. This has made being a kid hard. I can’t just play and drink water from the faucet after racing down the street.

We have lead in our water and it has become too toxic for us to drink. We are unable to use our water as it has reached unsafe levels. It has caused rashes, burns, headaches and other pains.

Because we are from the poorer side of the tracks, they didn't see this as a big issue. But we were experiencing real pain and suffering.

And the worst part is that the scientists didn’t believe us. They put TRUST IN NUMBERS and said that it had returned to normal levels and that it was safe again. The standard that they had for other places was not met here as we were still getting hurt, but the scientists said that it was fine.

But we did not let this discourage us. We educated ourselves and we disproved the DEFICIT MODEL as we were not ignorant and we raised awareness over this controversy in order to benefit us.

We knew that in order to be taken seriously we needed to assert our knowledge in order to not be considered ignorant. We opposed the idea of WILLFUL IGNORANCE as we did not just stand by and be uneducated about what was happening to us.

We as a community have tried to educate the public of the injustices that we endured, however people don't believe us. They look at it from a different perspective and use their SITUATED KNOWLEDGE to discredit ours. Scientists never believe us and they make it seem like we have not gone through this pain.
