The soil is less fertile, making farming hard. Appalachian Mountians was in this region. They had moderate summers with cold winters. Main resources were ship building and fishing. They had many ship builders and cobblers. They specialized in metal tools, shipbuilding, and fishing.
The main religion was Puritan. Town Center was the meeting place for people. First free public school was here.
They were democratic. They had a governor, governors court, and court system.


Chapter 2: Mid Atlantic Colonies
Pennsylvania
New York
New Jersey
Delaware



Soil is more fertile here and better for farming. They had many harbors and bay. They had warm summers and mild winters.
Main resources were farming, coal, and iron ore. They specialized in beef, pork, and wheat.
These colonies had many religions and were the most diverse group. They met in community stores for meetings.
They were democratic. They had a governor, governors court, and court system. New York started as a royal colony.

Chapter 3: Southern Colonies
Virginia
Maryland
North Carolina
Georgia



The soil is very fertile here. It's in the Coastal Plain and has sandy beaches and has many rivers and swamps. It has mild winters and very hot summers. Farms and Plantations were big in this region. They specialized in tobacco, indigo, and rice. The plantations were owned by the rich and owned slaves.
Land divided by counties. Religion was not diverse. People did not go to church a lot.
They are democratic and elected their own legislatures.

Chapter 4: Colonial Interdependence


New England had metal tools, fishing, and shipbuilding. Mid Atlantic had beef, pork , and wheat. Southern regions had rice, tobacco, and indigo. They traded all of these items by importing and exporting them.
