Kyle went for a swim and his hands got all wrinkly! Ever wonder why that is?

This is because of osmosis. osmosis is the movement of water in your body! that's why when kyle went swimming he got pruney fingers. He had so much water surrounding him the water in his body moved to balance it out.
an imporntan thing to remeber is when water is moving through your body it allways moves from high to low

osmosis is one of 3 things that require passive transport. osmosis, diffusion, and facilitated diffusion.
*Vocab*
osmosis: the movement of water
diffusion: the movement of anything from high to low
Facilitated diffusion: the movement of something with the help of a protein.

let's say that you going down an escalator that is moving down. would you try to go up it? no. that's because you spend absolutely no effort to go down the steps. same with diffusion, it takes things from high to low with no effort

let's say that your swimming but you get tired and can't hold yourself up very well but your mom comes and lifts you up and now you don't even have to try. that's because it's facilitated, that means someone is helping you.

so in summary we've learned...
. there are 3 types of passive transport, osmosis, diffusion, and facilitated diffusion. passive transport always goes from high to low
. facilitated diffusion is helped by protein.

one day kelly went to the mall. she got lost in a crowd that was all walking through the door but her mom was still inside so she pushed through the crowd to go back to the mall. this is an example of active transport.

something to remember about active transport is that it always goes from low to high and needs a lot of energy to work against the grid.
next, let's imagine you at a waterfall and you try to push the water back up the waterfall you can't really but it would take a lot of effort if you really wanted to. the point is active transport takes a lot of energy to move substances from high to low.

even though active transport moves from high to low its main goal it to keep things equal.
so if there are 6 people at the bottom and only 5 at the top one person would have to move from the top to the bottom.

wondering why active transport got its name? well, when you active you use energy and since active transport uses energy scientists decided to give it that name. now passive is the exact opposite it uses no energy that's why its called passive, because to just goes with the flow.
