In January 29, 1800, Singapore was a small fishing village.

On January 29,1819, Sir Stamford Raffles of British East India company established a trading post on   Singapore Island for Western and Eastern countries to trade with. 

On August 1, 1826, Singapore, Malacca and Penang became part of the British Strait Settlements, under the British rule.

On February 12, 1832, Singapore became capital of the Straits Settlements. 

The port attracts thousands of migrants from China, India and other parts of Asia. 

On December 8, 1941, Singapore was bombed by Japan.

On February 15,1942, Singapore was defeated by Japan and taken over by the Japanese during World War II. 

On September 12,1945, Japan surrendered and Singapore was returned to the military administration of the British Strait Settlements and eventually becomes a single crown colony.

On March 20,1948,Singapore held its first election.

On May 12, 1954, a riot in Singapore occurred due to the communist influence. Most of them were students that were angry about the war interrupting their studies because they had to do part-time military service.

On November 21,1954, People’s Action Party (PAP) was formed. PAP voiced out against anti-colonialism. Lee Kuan Yew became the first Prime Minister, Self-government attained in Singapore.
